OVERVIEW
Nemba District Hospital belongs to the Catholic Church, Diocese of Ruhengeri. This is one of three Hospitals that are in Gakenke District in the Northern Province, in addition to Ruli, Hospital Gatonde Hospital is now tota yet operational.
It was built in 1974, with the support of Medicus Mundi Navarra (Spain) under Fathers of FIDEU DE NUM community initiative. At the time, Nemba Hospital had 4 services (Internal medicine, Laboratory, Outpatient and Maternity) with 20 staffs including 1 medical doctor, 3 nurses, 1 auxiliary health and other support staff. Currently the Hospital has grown; there are several personnel and services. It serves a population of 259, 920 with capacity of 178 beds (+ 7 incubators). In the last year 2020, beds occupancy rate was around of 86.6%, the average of quarterly patients’ visits was 7323 in OPD while hospitalization, the average of quarterly patients’ admissions was 3433. The Hospital carries out regularly clinical and technical supervision to 9 health centers in its catchment area. Nemba Hospital is currently served by 10 doctors, 64 nurses and 13 midwives.
